Nomination Day

Elections will be held on Friday, 4.45pm
Each nominee is to prepare and make a short speech, and be prepared for questions
Each of us will have 2 votes

NEEDS/SITUATION/PROBLEMS:
people are destroying environment unknowingly
lack of education and awareness
target group - children
survive on tourism and hope that it can grow at a sustainable rate (ecotourism)
be sure to voice this out during meeting on sat

POSSIBLE PLANS:
1) Tree planting
2) Orchid Rescue (setting up physical barriers and signs)
what other things can we do besides physical stuff?
3) Education regarding conservation (interaction with locals and teach students how to protect the environment
what kind of activities can we organise?
4) Setting up a herbal garden

BRAINSTORM!
service objectives:
sustainability? e.g. adopt-a-tree projects
what pre/post-trip fund-raising activities can be held? e.g. take photos and make postcards or conservation posters
learning objectives:
be specific
what can u learn from the trip (starting from NOW)?
character development and reflections
setting goals (what u want to achieve)

FUND-RAISING
please brainstorm on ideas (e.g. postcards, sale of T-shirts, etc.)
AIM is to raise $1000/person

COST-BREAKDOWN:
International flight - $500
Domestic flight - $200
Jeep Ride - $100
Hotel 1 night in Calcutta - $50-60
Gear (thermals,jackets,trekking boots,waist pouch etc.) - few $10o
Vaccination $100
Total about $1500 (NYC can subsidise 0% if service learning project)

DIALOGUE WITH PARENTS:
after receiving letter, ask if this is necessary. can present proposals and show photos

MEETING ON FRIDAY:
OT core committee to meet Ms Ng after elections to discuss

MEETING ON SATURDAY:
Those who are free to go down to Nature Society in Geylang area at 4pm, to meet the Kachengzonga Conservation Committee people. Work out a list of questions to ask and clarify

COMMITMENT LEVEL:
all your SATURDAYS are booked. OT core committee shall head the various departments, the rest jus help out
