Hello! Here are the details of the Sikkim briefing.

Projects

1. Herbal Garden
Basically, they already have a herbal garden set up.
- we will be assigned things to do (eg. planting, make nursery beds etc) and all the equpiment and stuff needed will be provided by KCC.
- we will be brought on a herbal trail. (this part is learning for us)
- we'll learn about the various herbs (medicinal properties/growth/preparation) from the people there who grow and harvest the herbs.

2. Tree planting
- it is not the correct season, so we won't be able to directly plant the trees
- trees will be planted by potting or by putting them in plastic bags

3. Conservation education
- the kids we will be interacting range from 9-12 years old
- one idea is to hold an sharing and exchange session where we talk about out experiences in conservation efforts and they tell us theirs
- we intend to combine the education part with the tree and herb plating part ie. the kids will join us in doing the planting.
- however, it may bee close to their exam period so we are only given 2-3 days for interaction with the kids.

4. Post trip activities
- we will have to make a brochure for KCC to use to promote the herbal garden which is a new eco-tourism attraction.
- Fundraising: we take pretty pictures of sikkim and sell them as photographs/postcards.

The orchid rescue portion is currently put on hold because the man from KCC says herbal garden and tree plating will be more than enough for us to handle.

We will need to think about WHY we are doing this.
- learning objectives (eg. intellectual, social, physical)
- service objectives (eg. sustainability, continuity)

Also, think of a good name for the project ya (:

Ms Ng says that before we go for OT, we should carry out something similar to what we want to do in Sikkim. (eg. contact NParks)
