Time: 6-7pm
Venue: ODAC Room
Attendance: 26/26

Meeting Agenda:
1 Invest Post Mortem
2 Reunion

1 Invest Post Mortem

Emcees
- The tone for invest should be more formal
- Behaviour should be more dignified; GOH should be mentioned and welcomed with respect
- Farewell; tone should be one that is appreciative and with gratitude
(bear in mind of protocol for future ceremonies)

- we must take note of our language
- communication between us
- there should have been a proper opening + closing for the ceremony
- we should have rehearsed and gone through the sequence before hand
- investing should be done by order to ensure neatness ie. proper seating arrangement
- invest ceremony as slightly chaotic
- please do take note of your attire in the future; tucked in shirts, skirts proper lengths, collar should be buttoned, gils should wear stockings

Overall the teachers liked the videos and really liked the quotes added in. They also felt that "Deal or No Deal" was an interesting and novel idea. They really quite enjoyed it (:

Farewell could have had more interaction between us and the seniors.
Eg. we serve them their food; sit together
We should also have had more "closure" - learn to capture moments

In general,
- we should prioritise
- If we can do it, get it done. If not. then don't force it.
- Never give up halfway through!
- must hace a clear vision, look ahead
- be decisive! make decisions.

All in all, invest + reunion was a job well done. So a round of applause for the 24ths! :D

hey fellas,
this is my first post as your official chairperson and as an official ODAC instructor.

investiture and farewell went well today! teachers were filled with praises and most seniors forgot about our glitches when they saw our gifts. good job everyone! our first task well done, but that only means subsequent projects will be met with higher expectations. its ok, lets jus do what we do best and do it for the love of ODAC, im sure we will exceed any expectation. as we proudly don our gold badge in pride, let's not forget that this is just the beginning

from the speeches that ms low, teachers, dennis and myself made today, i've gathered a few points, that:
- ODAC is a learning journey and life-changing experience
- the biggest achievement is actually to conquer the mountain within us, how high it is, it is purely up to ourselves
- ODAC is not jus about the traumatising pain, but also the Perseverance, Adventure, Intraspect and New friends it brings
- Reflection is important as the easiest peak to conquer in the world are physical, and just ascending a mountain does not naturally mean we will be mentally prepared
- ODAC 24th batch is seeking to be innovative, ie to seek new ways and possibilities to do things without the expense of our vibrancy, all in all to make us more vibrant, efficient and effective as a CCA (e.g. Sikkim trip)
- ODAC 24th batch is also seeking to be integrative, ie to even out differences, maximise interpersonal relationships so as to create a sense of mutual trust and interdependence, all in all to make this human CCA closer to the heart (e.g. mirror sessions)

moving on from here,
23/7 - OT meeting, spring cleaning
24/7 - deadline for proposal submission to Ms Ng
25/7 - college day rehearsal (3pm) , reunion meeting and mirror session for conducting of activities (tentative)
26/7 -
27/7 - physical training, reunion updates
28/7 - college day, OSIM triathlon (SU, JS, JL)
29/7 - optional kayaking expedition?
30/7 - intensive reunion preparation
31/7 -
intensive reunion preparation
1/7 - pt, intensive reunion preparation
2/7 - intensive reunion preparation
3/7 - pt, intensive reunion preparation
4/7 - reunion

this is subjected to changes, especially the 2nd week

communications: yongsheng, zhanliang, darryl, wanping
events: jason, arkar, sufiyan, faizah

the rest of the people, now that invest and farewell is over, and everyone is involved in OT, please transfer over to the 3 departments ASAP. indicate your interest to CH and be informed about the happenings and initiate help ok?

planning of reunion will start FULL FLEDGE NOW!! pls be committed as we have to show all the past batches the quality of our batch

room orders
get lock combination from alex or siewhwee
cubes will be distributed on monday
follow duty roster strictly, but monday will be spring cleaning

Learning Objectives
1. learn about the culture, tradition, livelihood of the people
2. learn about the importance of conservation and how we can do our part

- how we conserve must be transferabble and sustainable

How do we measure success?
1. through the sustainability of the project (eg. whether the herbal garden will last, whether our education will be passed on?)
2. inspiring another group of people to go for the trip and share our experiences with peers when we return (eg. have a presentation on the trip for the school)
3. by having a form of kinship with the people there by end of the trip

Service Objectives
1. Set up a herbal garden
2. Educate the children on the importance of conservation
3. Tree planting
4. Orchid rescue

Hello! Here are the details of the Sikkim briefing.

Projects

1. Herbal Garden
Basically, they already have a herbal garden set up.
- we will be assigned things to do (eg. planting, make nursery beds etc) and all the equpiment and stuff needed will be provided by KCC.
- we will be brought on a herbal trail. (this part is learning for us)
- we'll learn about the various herbs (medicinal properties/growth/preparation) from the people there who grow and harvest the herbs.

2. Tree planting
- it is not the correct season, so we won't be able to directly plant the trees
- trees will be planted by potting or by putting them in plastic bags

3. Conservation education
- the kids we will be interacting range from 9-12 years old
- one idea is to hold an sharing and exchange session where we talk about out experiences in conservation efforts and they tell us theirs
- we intend to combine the education part with the tree and herb plating part ie. the kids will join us in doing the planting.
- however, it may bee close to their exam period so we are only given 2-3 days for interaction with the kids.

4. Post trip activities
- we will have to make a brochure for KCC to use to promote the herbal garden which is a new eco-tourism attraction.
- Fundraising: we take pretty pictures of sikkim and sell them as photographs/postcards.

The orchid rescue portion is currently put on hold because the man from KCC says herbal garden and tree plating will be more than enough for us to handle.

We will need to think about WHY we are doing this.
- learning objectives (eg. intellectual, social, physical)
- service objectives (eg. sustainability, continuity)

Also, think of a good name for the project ya (:

Ms Ng says that before we go for OT, we should carry out something similar to what we want to do in Sikkim. (eg. contact NParks)

Saturday, July 14, 2007

hello (:
haha say hello your previous and present ot chief.

im supposed to be super shagged now cos i havent had my sleep aft house sleepover and sikkim presentation, but im not tired now and i just felt like adding a post here.

no tone of crying yes? (: haha.

hmmss i know that soon shihan jiaqian or rachel might be updating on the sikkim briefing today,so i shall let them give you the detailed details instead of giving you my not so detailed details (: yup.

ohoh.i just wanted to add that if it seemed as if i was very affected in the midst of my speech cos of my tone,im actually not.just that i wasnt used to telling my feelings to so many ppl at once.haha.so if i scared you all a tinyyyyy bit sorry ya (: i'm still the denise from outerspace.aaahah.

but anywayyy.i shall repeat this again,in case it wasnt brought across cos of my shaky voice.its gonna sounds un-understandable again, but just read it again and again and maybe youll get what i mean hehe.
k.i know of some issues going on that will be sorted out soon enough (i hope)..but hopefully you guys know that although there are limited number of exco positions, that doesnt limit the amount i,and all of the rest of us,can contribute to odac (: so cheer up all you ppl out theree (or maybe just some).we joined odac for a common great experience, and not for the post yea?
and ya,it may seem as if the posts are restricting us in doing the things we do, plan and those we wanna do cos of the system we have.but ultimately it is a way of organising things better rights?we cant direct the reason to solely efficiency, but also cos we have to admit that things cant progress smoothly without someone in charge.
yup.and about the issue on why cant ppl have a post based on their interests and not restrict the number of ppl in each post and all, that is the reason why we have the nominating and voting system in the first place rightttss.nomination as in,self-nomination,which doesnt necessarily mean you think youre the best person for the job,but meaning you have the interest to take up the job.so hope all of us dared to take up a post we were interested in.and if we didnt get it,doesnt matter cos "although the number of positions are limited",that doesnt limit us in loving what we love (:
hmmss.odac is odac, and by joining odac, being outdoors means we need to experience outdoor elements by being in the outdoors in all aspects.including those we dislike.so i guess you dont have to view "limiting the number of people in each post" as the problem, but more of it as "spreading our workload among all of us",cos at the end of it everyone will be involved in everything that is organised.savvy?k i think i need to rephrase that.some ppl may be elected to be in a postion that they dont like, only cause of the reason on the limited number of ppl per post.but being in-charge of something doesnt mean youre gonna be the only one involved in whatever you do.like although you arent doing the thing you like to do,you will ultimately be involved in it since you like it right?ah.savvvvyyyy.but of courseeee everyone has their own opinions.thereforeee arguments arise and tension builds up and all.its fine.to an extent.but to me i just dont understand why cant we be happy goobers and appreciate what we have now.such unsatiated humans.

so.who else is going for chem remedial?

k that was quite anti climax.but im just here to tell you guys that it really isnt worth it to be too worked up over positions and these kind of stuff.it only makes life more complicated.life is short man, love it more than hate it (:

whooo.we shall look forward to ot and plan it well together kays.take care all.

BE JEALOUS.
YESTERDAY was 577!
a great day to celebrate.THE BOULDERING PPL (me faizah jason arkar) went to climbasia after sch (although i didnt boulder) and conquered the pretty walls.
SO AGAIN,BE JEALOUS.
HAH.
all hail the mighty jason.THE CEILING.

pretty rocks outside climbasia (: yeah, like tilt your head.

THEN after chalkloads of fun we headed for dinner at united square.pretty subway and lovely cookies for faizah (: and then it was fruitful shopping for shoes :D we even had FREE analysis for our feet (: kfine,me only.

anyway, being great people as we have always been, arkar decided to be filial and buy fruits back.and being great bouldering buddies,we accompanied him to ntuc at square2,where we were faced with a completely different side to velocity/novena square, with enchanting views of bubble tea shops, yoghurt shops and eye-catching jewellery shops which we were all not interested in HAHA.so as a fun-loving group,we had a BREATH TAKING idea of sharing a watermelon together.and we did,so we brought it outside velocity to share peacefully.of course,we intelligently conquered the green monster with cutlery from kfc and longjohn (: it terrifying-ly bled red juice which arkar bravely drank using his bare bouldering blistered hands.-applauds-

pictures?

THE WATERMELON GANG.
step one: AIM.
step two: STAB.stab three: CUT!our lovely air chiefs looking red with um.delight? non-airchiefs looking.DISTURBED. "horrors!!" says faizah,we utmost joy expressed in her face.beautiful disaster HAHA.
but it was fun.so you guys better start bouldering and maybe we'll consider letting you join the watermelon gang.its a privilege you know.
OKAY.remember to have your serving of watermelon today (:

regarding today's meeting, i know like jason many of u actually feel the same way. but thks for raising up so we can constantly seek to improve ourselves

just to note this post is not an excuse or a defence statement for me or anyone else. yep like the teachers said its good to be transparent.

on friday the 6 of us were overloaded with information on invest farewell reunion and ot. we did not know much bout ot too. i know its our fault not to inform u guys much before today's meeting. and yep it does seem all too decided. so that part we apologise.

as for the allocation of tasks, i realised we overlooked ur opinion as we were too concerned bout getting the job done at such short notice. sorry if it seemed too overbearing on our decisions but we werent really sensitive enuf. and we sort of take it for granted that u guys will be ok with us allocating the teams. if ur not very pleased bout ur allocated job, or think u can do more, u can always approach me or shihan.

erm we will be more sensitive about how we do things and will seek to improve ourselves. i applaud jason's courage and i hope u guys can do the same when met with similar situations. only that can i learn, and we as a batch grow.

yup thats bout it, as for nominations and elections, we all know it will all happen very soon, and i repeat what i said today for the sake of those absent. THIS IS REALLY THE TIME TO BE OPEN. i hope u can really be fair to the batch and urself, and tell us if u want to run for a certain post. or else u cannot blame us for not choosing u. like wad the tchers said, tell ur close fren, and that fren as a FREN, spread it to everyone. ahah this may sound very jokey but u know what i mean. yea so be OPEN!!

=)
